Food Additives are substances added to food, serving a wide range of functions. Firstly, they can improve the color, aroma, and taste of food. Secondly, they can extend the shelf-life of food. Preservatives, for instance, can inhibit the growth of microorganisms and slow down food spoilage. Emulsifiers help oil and water to mix, making products like salad dressings uniform and stable. In addition, food additives also include nutritional fortifiers such as vitamin B, calcium, iron, etc. These can replenish the nutrients lost during food processing and storage, or make up for the deficiency of specific nutrients in the diets of certain groups, thus improving the nutritional value of food. However, although food additives have many benefits, excessive use may pose risks to human health. Therefore, strict regulations are in place in various countries to standardize their use.
